DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES – State Senator Gilbert Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) and the Latino Legislative Caucus will host a Green Job Summit in Downtown tomorrow and Friday.

The event, which will take place at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel on Figueroa Street, will highlight employment opportunities within the green economy.

The summit kicks off Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. with an invitation-only reception and keynote address by California Energy Commission Chairwoman Karen Douglas. Friday’s free events start at 8:30 a.m. with welcome speeches by Cedillo and Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, followed by three panel discussions on emerging sectors within the green economy, distribution of benefits and burdens, job training and regulatory challenges. Speakers will include California Workforce Investment Board Executive Director Barbara Halsey, Verde Group Executive Director Rafael Aguilera and California Public Utilities Commissioner Dan Grueneich, who will discuss the CPUC’s recent approval of a $3.13 billion investment in energy efficient programs.

The move is expected to produce tens of thousands of new jobs, among other benefits, according to Cedillo’s office.

The Westin Bonaventure is at 404 S. Figueroa St. To RSVP, call (213) 612-9566 or email Christy Wolfe in Cedillo’s office at Christy.wolfe@sen.ca.gov.
